3 Tips to help you overcome writers block.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s an undeniable fact of grant writing \u2013 the actual prospect of writing a grant can be paralyzing.\u00a0 Like any other type of writing project, writer\u2019s block can come at the most inconvenient time like a cat jumping up and sitting on your keyboard.<\/span><\/p>\n

But you\u2019re up against an unforgiving deadline when it comes to grant writing and the job must be done.\u00a0 So what do you do when the words just won\u2019t come out?<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Lean on your outline.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If you\u2019re already into the process of writing a grant, that means you are working from an outline.\u00a0 If you\u2019re having trouble finding your narrative flow, start by putting information into the outline where it fits.\u00a0 It\u2019s easier to find a flow when the bullet points are all in front of you, so start plugging in points.\u00a0 This will also help train your brain in the verbiage of the document you are creating.\u00a0 When inspiration strikes, let it find you busy!\u00a0 This way, when you get your mojo back, you\u2019ll already be in a flow with your project.<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Change locations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Sometimes all it takes is a change of scenery.\u00a0 If you can move your project to a laptop, sit in a different place in your office or house.\u00a0 Go to a coffee shop for even just an hour to kickstart your brain.\u00a0 Even just standing up, walking around the block, and coming back to your project can help shake up stuck energy and get you back in gear.<\/span><\/p>\n

      1. Pick a section and write it anyway.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        This is another tip that leans on the outline.\u00a0 This is the beauty of grant writing.\u00a0 If you\u2019re stuck on one section, pick another and work on that.\u00a0 Just get out a couple of paragraphs.\u00a0 Neurobiologically speaking, motivation follows action.\u00a0 You can only psyche yourself up to do a thing to a limited extent.\u00a0 When you start, motivation follows, but there\u2019s no need to start on the hardest part when you\u2019re stuck.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Writer\u2019s block happens to all of us, especially when we\u2019re just getting back into writing after a break.\u00a0 Think of it as getting back in shape.\u00a0 Sometimes you\u2019ve got to trick yourself into getting the job done.<\/span><\/p>\n
